Ona life
The
first sequence shows an Ona family on the move. The men are in front
and carry their bows. They are followed by their women who carry
the family’s household possessions and babies. Note the sumptuous
guanaco furs that are being worn by all. Of the four Fuegian tribes,
only the Ona and the Haush dressed against the cold in this way. The other two tribes, the Yamana and the Kawesqar, customarily went naked despite the ferocious wind and cold.
An
Ona man then shows how a small hut is built, followed by shots showing
Ona families living in a number of rather more substantial huts.
The last sequence shows an Ona hunter stringing his bow.
